Jim Carrey regrets latest role in film because of violence

Comedic actor Jim Carrey said Sunday that he regrets his role as Col.

Comedic actor Jim Carrey said Sunday that he regrets his role as Col. Stars and Stripes in this summer's superhero-themed film Kick-Ass 2, citing last year's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Carrey tweeted that the tragedy caused a "change in my heart," and he cannot support the film's "violence." He is unlikely to promote the film before its release this summer.

"Why doesn't he contribute the money...to political action groups that are trying to pass background checks?" host Joe Scarborough said Tuesday on Morning Joe.

"Maybe this is the beginning of something," host Mika Brzezinski added.

The film is based on the comic book of the same name and is a sequel to the 2010 film Kick-Ass.
