New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie’s first re-election ad hit airwaves Thursday, touting the Republican’s leadership of an effective state government, playing off Washington's dysfunction and partisan gridlock.

“They said it couldn't be done. New Jersey was too broken, too partisan," the ad begins. "But they never met Chris Christie."

Christie, who is running against Democratic Sen. Barbara Buono, has well out-raised his competitor for the Nov. 4 election campaign.

The ad, “They Said,” goes on to tout the governor’s history of balancing budgets, cutting spending, and capped property taxes.

Christie’s press office dispatched a fact sheet to back up the ad. It outlined the governor's successes from a balanced budget to keeping taxes low to his eliminating of 10,500 state government employees he'd deemed to be wasteful.

The ad touts Christie's bipartisanship and concludes by reminding New Jersey of Christie’s visible role in the Hurricane Sandy relief, set to images of homes pushed off their foundations by storm surge and the governor hugging an elderly woman.

The ad will air in Philadelphia and New York City markets over the next 10 days, costing the campaign roughly $1.5 million.

Christie has maintained extremely high approval ratings, with 70% of New Jersey voters in a June Rutgers-Eagleton poll approving of the job he’s doing.
