Brzezinski: Women would be reasonable on cliff

Morning Joe’s Mika Brzezinski thinks women would handle the fiscal cliff a lot better than the men negotiating the deal.

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said he expected Republicans to cave over tax rates on Sunday, and Brzezinski said that's a counterproductive and downright arrogant statement to make—particularly at a negotiating table of men.

“Oh, please, this is all about men,” she said on Thursday’s Morning Joe. “A woman would never think of saying this because a woman would be much more reasonable in the entire negotiation. And something would actually get done.”

The incoming Congress has more women than ever before—20 in the Senate and 80 in the House of Representatives—breaking records and causing a traffic jam in the Senate ladies room. But Brzezsinski says more women at the negotiating table would speed the deal along considerably.

But if you're going to be men negotiating, do it right.

“If you’re going to negotiate as men you’re going to have to find a way to strategy make the other side feel whole while not destroying your own ego at the same time,” she said. “I didn’t understand when I saw the Secretary of the Treasury on the Sunday talk shows saying that they’re gonna cave. That doesn’t make sense.”
