Cities and towns across the country have been dealing with immense backlogs of untested rape kits for years, and despite efforts to deal with cases that are sometimes decades old, women still have to fight for justice. Rosa Pickett of Robbins, Illinois spoke up about her case and is now a voice for the dozens of other women in her her town whose cases went cold or were never investigated.
After being assaulted as a teenager in 1977, Pickett's rape was never investigated and her rape kit was lost. She is still trying to answer questions about how her case was handled. As she told guest host Joy Reid on Saturday's Melissa Harris-Perry, "I wanted to know where it was at and…why it wasn’t investigated."
