Mass. Senate candidates make final push before election

Massachusetts Senate candidates Rep.

Massachusetts Senate candidates Rep. Ed Markey and his Republican opponent, Gabriel Gomez, continue to campaign hard on the eve of the state's special election to fill the seat vacated by current Secretary of State John Kerry. Markey and Gomez are each making several campaign stops across the state and continue to bombard television viewers with last-minute campaign ads.

Polls currently favor Markey by a wide margin: the latest one from Emerson College gives Markey, a member of Congress since 1976, a 51-to-41 edge over Gomez.

But even with the sizable lead, Democrats have not let up in the campaign's final days. After Republican Scott Brown won an upset victory in the 2010 special election for the late Ted Kennedy's Senate seat, Democrats have enlisted the party's elite to stump for Markey, including President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, and Vice President Biden.

Despite admission of his underdog status, Gomez remains confident about his chances on Tuesday, telling Fox News on Sunday, "These polls move up and down and all over the place."
