President Obama is expected to make a statement Wednesday announcing that Vice President Joe Biden will lead an inter-agency effort to craft new policies in Newtown's wake. And while pro-gun Senate Democrats have indicated a willingness to discuss new gun control legislation, Republicans remain largely unmoved.

Speaker John Boehner introduced his "Plan B" in the fiscal cliff negotiations proposing to extend tax cuts for people making up to $1 million. Democrats rejected the proposal but expressed hope that a bipartisan deal could be reached before the end of the month.

And an independent commission tasked to investigate the September 11 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi casts blame on "systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies within two bureaus of the State Department."
