With the flu season off to an early and roaring start, health officials say it's not too late to get a flu shot. According to the FDA website, "people can still get protection... even though immunization takes several weeks to take effect. The season usually peaks in January or February, with some cases continuing into the spring and even beyond."
At least 47 states are reporting widespread flu activity, according to the latest Centers For Disease Control report released Friday. Some emergency rooms have been so packed, they've had to divert patients to other hospitals.
Veteran NBC reporter Kevin Tibbles said, he didn't want to end up as one of those statistics, so he went under the "needle", so to speak, on Thursday.
