#3 House Dem: Boehner won't allow a shutdown

Congressman James Clyburn (D-SC)  is confident that Congress will pass a continuing budget resolution by the Sept. 30 deadline to prevent government agencies

Congressman James Clyburn (D-SC)  is confident that Congress will pass a continuing budget resolution by the Sept. 30 deadline to prevent government agencies from implementing a shutdown plan.

The South Carolina lawmaker told Jansing & Co. on Tuesday morning that while he empathizes with Speaker John Boehner’s difficulty in working with his GOP colleagues, “John Boehner knows what's best for this country, and what's best for this country is for us to respect that 59% of the American people who say they do not want to see the government close down over the Affordable Care Act. And I think he will respect that.”

Clyburn said that President Obama’s re-election in 2012 was a referendum that favored not only the president but also the Affordable Care Act. “We ought to recognize that.  We ought to respect that and move forward,” he said.
