'Severely conservative' views only bring America backwards

Let me finish tonight with this.

Let me finish tonight with this.

I don't know where these people are coming from—this Senate candidate out in Missouri who says women don't get pregnant if they're raped, and this other guy, this odd duck, who now says a woman cannot lose her life or risk serious harm in child delivery. That's a new one.

You know, it was somewhat abstract to deny climate change despite the fact that people up in Alaska—where I was for a conference recently—are talking about commercial shipping soon being able to pass easily over the North Pole. Talk about a Northwest Passage!

You know, you can chalk up believing the planet's only a few thousand years old to religious belief— ignoring all the bones left from ages past, all those skeletons of large animals, all that oil we use from deep in the ground built up there over the millions of years this planet's been here vegetating and filled with life.

But now this anti-science looniness is merging with this ancient attitude toward women. Keep them at home, keep them pregnant, don't let them get equality at work, don't let them have birth control with their health plans, threaten them with high crimes if they have an abortion...all this from the same intellectual peanut gallery that denies all the other progress of man and womankind.

And these people want to lead America through the next decade of the 21st century, these people who believe most of all in not believing.

What a crowd to turn over our future to, people who don't even have a grip on the past—except the part they want to go back to.
