It's official: former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley has announced he's forming an exploratory campaign to run for governor of Illinois.
Daley used a common saying from the Obama administration to announce his candidacy—"We can't wait"—in a video on his website.
If he throws his hat into the race, Daley would be challenging incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary. A Public Policy Poll from November 2012 showed Quinn had an approval rating of just 25%, making him the least popular governor in the country. The same poll showed that a match up between Daley and Quinn would put Daley on top by 3 points, 37 to 34.
Bill Daley is the son of former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley and the brother of former Mayor Richard M. Daley. Daley also served as secretary of Commerce under President Bill Clinton's administration.
