Apparently “responsible gun owner” does not need to be on the current resume for field representatives of the National Rifle Association.
Richard D’Alauro, the organization’s field representative for New York City and its suburbs, is currently banned from owning or purchasing firearms for alleged spousal abuse after a 2010 altercation with his now ex-wife at their home on Long Island. According to the Daily News:
Suffolk County authorities filed misdemeanor charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child and a noncriminal charge of harassment as a result of the domestic dust-up, which occurred at 1:55 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2010, records show.At the time, the police confiscated a whopping 39 pistols, shotguns and rifles that D’Alauro kept in the couple’s East Northport, L.I., home.
D’Alauro pleaded guilty to the harassment charge this past October, and the judge extended the order of protection to October, 2013. At that point, D’Alauro’s firearms will be returned to him and his right to purchase more will be reinstated.
The NRA has not commented on the fact that one of their officials is legally barred from owning guns as the result of alleged domestic violence. According to D’Alauro’s lawyer, John Ray, said that “it’s of no significance whatsoever,” that his client is barred from owning guns while representing the NRA, since it is not required of NRA employees.
