Chris Matthews had a novel idea on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno: Make New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg America's next treasury secretary.

"He's made billions of dollars communicating economic information. I think he'd be a good treasury secretary," the Hardball host argued Friday during a discussion about President Obama's cabinet options.

"But then you couldn't have a large soda," the late-night funnyman joked, pointing to Bloomberg's recent ban on the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces.

Matthews said he believed U.N. ambassador Susan Rice is the frontrunner to be the next secretary of state. And even though Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry's name is being floated for secretary of defense, Matthews said, "I don't think that's what he wants."

Matthews said his favorite part of election nights are the concession speeches, noting that Mitt Romney's was "the best thing he ever did in his life." He said he liked the way Romney humbly came on stage, thanked his team and congratulated Obama.

There were "no complaints, no dodging the ball. It was so--I mean like Sinatra says, class, just class, " Matthews said to applause from the audience.
