Here’s another reason to be wary of leaving a digital trail.
Emails and private photos belonging to the Bush family have apparently been hacked and exposed, prompting the Secret Service to investigate.
The Smoking Gun, which first reported the story, published the images, including one that purports to be former President H.W. Bush in a hospital bed in Houston. Others, according to the website, are semi-racy, painted self-portraits George W. Bush e-mailed to his sister, including ones of him showering and in a bathtub.
The hacker claimed to have access to personal emails belonging to members of the American political dynasty and friends from 2009 and 2012, including home address, cell phone numbers and e-mails.
The Houston Chronicle confirms a Secret Service investigation is underway.
Among the interesting tidbits, according to the Smoking Gun:
-George H.W. Bush’s health had taken a turn for the worse in December, which resulted in the former president’s chief of staff to write Bush’s children that “your dad’s funeral team is having an emergency meeting” and to “NOT TELL YOUR MOTHER.”
-A get-will-soon email from President Obama via his adviser Valerie Jarett saying “Michelle and I haven’t wanted to impinge on you while you are recuperating, but please know that we are thinking of you and the entire family.”
-George W. Bush writing to his siblings in December that he was “thinking about eulogy” and asked for stories that illustrated their father. “Hopefully I’m jumping the gun. But since the feeling is that you all would rather me speak than bubba, please help,” apparently referencing former President Bill Clinton.
