Brazil's first working-class President, Lula da Silva, turned himself in to police this morning after spending the weekend at the metalworkers' union headquarters in São Paulo, in defiance of an arrest warrant. The former President, a hero to many living in poverty, will spend the next 12 years in prison for corruption.
