Why white sharks are like serial killers

Updated

Sunday kicks off the Discovery Channel’s 26th annual “Shark Week.” Last year, 21 million people tuned into the week-long series and this year it’s packed with new programming including the new documentary Great White Serial Killer.

Emmy-nominated Shark Week producer Jeff Kurr joined msnbc’s Alex Witt on Saturday to talk about his new documentary that unveils the similarities between killer sharks and human serial killers.

“They [sharks] share a lot of the same traits as human serial killers, they hunt the same way,” Kurr said.  Just like serial killers, “white sharks hide in certain places’” while they hunt to remain undiscovered.

Kurr also shared his experience with the dangers of filming sharks and the rewarding result. “People that watch Shark Week want incredible footage, eye candy and that’s what we’re known for and that’s what I love getting.”

Shark Week begins Sunday, Aug. 4 at 8 p.m. on the Discovery Channel.
