Matt Damon and Jodie Foster’s Elysium thrilled sci-fi fans and topped the box office this weekend.  Director Neill Blomkamp’s film grossed $30,400,000 and gave Matt Damon his sixth-biggest opening weekend.

We’re The Millers, another R-rated movie, also led the box office this weekend.  Jennifer Aniston played a stripper turned make-believe wife to a small-time drug dealer played by Jason Sudeikis. Five days after its Wednesday opening, the comedy almost earned back its entire budget making $38,044,000.

Disney’s Planes soared into third place making $22,525,000 this weekend. The movie was originally planned to fly straight to DVD, but Disney redirected it to theaters in 3D. The poorly-reviewed sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief showed anything but Olympian strength at  theaters. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters placed fourth. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington’s 2 Guns rounded out the top five at the box office, grossing $11,128,000 .
