Military rape survivors sue US defense secretaries
Attorney Susan Burke joins MSNBC’s Alex Witt to discuss sexual assault in the military. She has sued former Defense Secretaries Robert Gates and Donald Rumsfeld on behalf of 28 military rape survivors and currently represents the alleged Naval Academy rape victim. Burke does not believe that fair sexual assault investigations are possible within the chain of command still in place. She underscores how assault is a decades-long problem and an epidemic. Burke gives the background of her Naval Academy case and how it illustrates the bias and conflict of keeping an assault investigation within the chain of command.
