President Obama has been on the offensive this week as he sells the Affordable Care Act to the American public.
“The problem is it is a pretty complex piece of work and it is only partially in effect now,” economist Jared Bernstein said. The important thing the president is focusing on, Bernstein says, “is that the reforms around Obamacare are actually slowing the costs of healthcare.”
According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released last month, 49% of Americans said they felt that Obama’s signature piece of legislation was a bad law. Only 37% of Americans said they supported Obamacare.
Bernstein did not seem phased by the statistics. “At least the Affordable Care Act is more popular than Congress itself right now,” he said.
“Low bar, I understand that.”
