House Democrat not convinced to authorize military action in Syria

Democratic Rep. David Cicilline is still not convinced that military action in Syria is in the best move forward for the United States. On Weekends with Alex Witt, he said, “I’m still not persuaded yet that a military action, a military strike is in the best interests long-term of the United States and will advance our national security.”

Cicilline, a Rhode Island Democrat, also questioned the measures short of a military strike that the United States is currently taking to condemn and isolate Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. He encouraged drumming up support to build an international coalition to admonish the clear human rights violations being perpetuated under Assad’s leadership.

“If this is an important principle of international law which I believe it is, then there ought to be a broad coalition of people all over the world that are willing to stand with the United States and protect this international interest,” he said.
