Despite a decisive Senate shutdown of legislation that would have expanded background checks for firearm purchases, gun control advocacy groups are not giving up.
Two groups are out with new, powerful ads encouraging Americans to put continued pressure on their congressional representatives. One ad called "Deja Vu" by the group, Mom's Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, features the post-shooting speeches of Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama--who all promised action to prevent school shootings from happening in the future, but failed to deliver.
"Not a single stronger federal gun law has been passed since the Columbine tragedy more than a decade ago," reads a description of the ad on the group's website. “How many more rounds are we going to let this go on for?”
Another ad from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee released Tuesday targets Montana Sen. Max Baucus, who was one of four Democrats to vote against expanded background checks.
"Seventy-nine percent of Montana voters support background checks," says a woman featured in the ad. "So why did Sen. Max Baucus vote against us?"
