Here in New York City, officials are holding a new kind of lottery. If you win this one, you don't get money. You get the right to be among the first same-sex couples to be married here in the state when it officially becomes legal on Sunday.After marriage equality was passed in Albany last month, city officials say they were inundated with marriage requests from gay and lesbian couples.Today, city officials said they expect 764 couples will be married on Sunday. read more

In an already dramatic meeting with British Parliament, today a protester hurled a foam pie at embattled media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Poll: GOP takes hit on debt debate

As top Republicans and Democrats continue to haggle over the debt ceiling, new poll numbers suggest the White House is winning the PR war.The CBS News survey found a whopping 71% disapprove of the way Congressional Republicans have been handling the issue and only 21% approve of their approach. Within the GOP party itself,  51% disapprove of the Republican response (or lack there of) to the crisis.For the Dems in Congress, the disapproval rating was slightly better at 58% and an approval rating of 31%. read more
