Jilted bride saved from suicide jump

Just days before her wedding, a woman in Northeast China tried to jump from her seventh floor apartment when she learned that her fiance had married someone else. The jilted bride, 22-year-old Li-Wan, sat in her wedding dress sobbing on the ledge of her apartment while onlookers watched from below. Luckily,when Li-Wan was about jump, a local police officer caught her by the neck and eventually, with the help of her neighbors, pulled her to safety. Li-Wan was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. The dramatic ordeal was caught on camera. read more

A protester dumped a bunch of glitter on Newt Gingrich and his wife tonight at a book-signing in Minneapolis. The man approached the couple during the event at a downtown Minneapolis hotel and showered the rainbow-colored confetti on the pair. He then yelled, "stop the hate" and “feel the rainbow,” presumably a nod to gay rights. The protester was later identified as 24-year-old Nick Espinosa. read more

The Treasury Department started to suspend investments in federal retirement and disability funds today in order to stop a possible default."I have written to Congress on previous occasions regarding the importance of timely action to increase the debt limit in order to protect the full faith and credit of the United States and avoid catastrophic economic consequences for citizens," Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said in a letter to Congress. read more
