The issue of education in America and abroad is a reoccurring theme on this show. Along with UNICEF, last year Lawrence started the K.I.N.D. fund to deliver desks to school kids in Malawi. Just last week, Lawrence stood up for teachers who have been under attack by ring-wing extremists.Now, deep spending cuts to education under the new debt deal have caught our attention at The Last Word and all of msnbc. U.S. loses top credit rating

The S&P just cut the long-term U.S. credit rating by one notch to AA-plus on concerns about growing budget deficits. U.S. Treasuries, once seen as the safest investment in the world are now rated lower than bonds issued by the UK, Germany, France and Canada.
