Boehner slapped with ethics complaint

A watchdog group filed an ethics complaint against Republican House Speaker John Boehner today over how he spent funds to defend the Defense of Marriage Act. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington claims he violated the Antideficiency Act, a law designed to stop officials from overspending.In a response, Boehner's office called CREW’s action “stupid” in a statement."This 'complaint' is off-base and stupid to the point that it creates the appearance of partisanship by CREW. read more

DNC responds to debate

Republicans stand united against President Obama on pretty much everything these days. That came across loud and clear in last night’s GOP debate in New Hampshire, and Democrats took notice.Today, the DNC released a response video titled, "What in the world are they talking about?" The ad accused the GOP of focusing on issues that don’t really matter. Willard M. Romney's campaign has released a new video that ignores his Republican rivals, and goes directly after President Obama. The ad takes exception with a comment the President made about the economic recovery when he said there will be "bumps in the road."The people in the ad, all said to be Romney supporters and not actors, stand up to say that they're not "bumps in the road." But as has been noted by ThinkProgress and others... Romney didn't exactly do the best job creating jobs when he was in charge of things in Massachusetts. read more

House Speaker John Boehner cracked an Anthony Weiner joke while giving the commencement address at Ohio State University. During yesterday’s speech, Boehner (that’s pronounced "Bay-ner") used his own last name while musing over the topic of mispronunciation when meeting with voters.He then said with assertiveness, "Thank God it's not Weiner." Huh huh.It's both a nod to the political fallout over the congressman's use of Twitter and payback for Weiner’s joke at this year’s Correspondents Dinner. read more

President Obama hit the campaign trail today, speaking at a manufacturing center in North Carolina. The theme: jobs, jobs and jobs. He’s trying to re-assure Americans he’s focused on their top concern of the economy."Today, the single most serious economic problem we face is getting people back to work," the president said at a LED lighting plant in Durham. "We stabilized the economy, we prevented a financial meltdown and an economy that was shrinking is now growing.
