As the White House marks the 50th anniversary of the film “To Kill a Mockingbird,” msnbc’s Lawrence O’Donnell explained the connection between the film’s story and today’s politics in the Rewrite.

Mitt Romney was the frontrunner at the beginning of the campaign for the Republican nomination. And now he is the frontrunner again and presumed nominee-in-waiting. In the interim, Republican voters kept begging for anyone but Romney, crossing out the name Romney and replacing it with Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Gingrich, Santorum…

What were they looking for? Perhaps, something a little closer to Atticus Finch.
