msnbc’s Lawrence O’Donnell asked Sandford city manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. point blank if he plans to fire him.
Bonaparte said suspending chief Lee is one of the “options” for him “to consider.” Bonaparte confirmed he has the ability to fire the police chief at any time. And pressure is mounting from the public to get rid of Lee and arrest shooter George Zimmerman, who claimed self defense in the shooting under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law.
“I’ve stated that I want to know, as the city manager, did the Sanford police do things they shouldn’t have done? Or did they not do things that they should have done?” he said on The Last Word. “That’s the basis on the information that I would make a determination on moving forward with the Sanford Police Department.”
Bonaparte said he’s not currently satisfied with some of the responses from Chief Lee.
“I have some questions. I know members of the commission have questions — that’s why we’ve asked for an outside review.”
