We got a great start to the Memorial Day weekend at The Last Word headquarters. Our GLAAD Award finally arrived (though still waiting one more item in the mail).
The staff has been anxiously taking turns holding the statue (it’s super heavy, in case you're wondering) and it’s now found a permanent home on Lawrence’s desk.
We won for Outstanding TV Journalism Segment category for our “Fort Worth Speech” segment with Joel Burns, a city councilman in Fort Worth, and his teary plea to gay teens. His advice: it will get better. In a very emotional speech, he pleaded with bullied gay teens to re-think suicide as an option. We discussed the importance of his personal message at length and conducted an exclusive interview with Burns and his husband. His message of hope is something to remember.
