Obama fires up the base, dings Romney

Today in Washington, President Obama addressed the United Auto Workers legislative conference. And those in attendance got some vintage Obama. The President gave a soaring and fiery speech reminiscent of his days on the campaign trail during the 2008 presidential race.

Given the audience, President Obama focused on the success of the auto industry after the federal government moved in to save General Motors and Chrysler. The President said, “Just a few years ago, nearly one in five autoworkers were handed a pink slip. And as the financial crisis hit with its full fury, America faced a hard and once unimaginable reality: two of the Big Three, G.M. and Chrysler, were on the brink of failure."

President Obama went on to hit Mitt Romney without naming him by name, saying "some politicians even said we should 'let Detroit go bankrupt!'" Dramatic pause. The crowd boos. "You remember that?" the President asked. More boos.
