C-SPAN

A new White House petition asks Obama’s admistration to approve filming a C-SPAN show featuring Vice President Joe Biden. The show creator writes, “Vice President Joe Biden has a demonstrated ability to bring people together, whether at the negotiating table or at the neighborhood diner. We, therefore, urge the Obama Administration to authorize the production of a recurring C-SPAN television program featuring the daily activities and interactions of the Vice President with elected officials, foreign dignitaries and everyday American families.”

The petition is posted a day after the Vice President greeted families with hilarious (and to some, slightly inappropriate) comments during the swearing-in ceremony for the 113th Congress. The Vice President’s public image was on full display as he starred in his very own “Biden show in the Old Senate Chamber Thursday.” Here are some of Joe Biden’s top one-liners yesterday:

“Spread your legs…you’re gonna be frisked!”

Biden told this to North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s husband after the photographer told him to place his hands by his side. Biden explained to Heitkamp’s husband that when someone says “that to somebody in North Dakota they think it’s a frisk.”

“If you need any help on your pecs, let me know”

Biden told South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott’s brother who was a former football player and a command sergeant major in the Army.

“As they say in southern Delaware, you’ve done good.”

The guy-next-door politician praised legislators’ mothers for “doing good.”

“You’ve got beautiful eyes, Mom”

Biden told this to several moms, including the mother of Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb.

“You’ve got a smile that lights up the room”

One of Biden’s favorite compliments to several daughters and mothers of senators.

But all jokes aside, Joe Biden has become a superstar in politics by wielding the facade of a crazy uncle who actually looks out for the middle class due to his Scranton upbringing as the son of a used car salesman. His well-known public image, including his f-bombs and public displays of affection, has detracted from his success as a politician, making him one of the most– if not the most effective–vice president in modern history.

Joe Biden has been instrumental in obtaining legislative victories for the Obama administration. Most recently, Biden brokered the fiscal cliff deal with Sen. Mitch McConnell, then met with Senate Democrats on New Years Eve to finalize details. The day after, Biden met with House Democrats to ensure they would support the plan once it was put up for a vote.

Biden was also responsible for negotiating the passage of the stimulus bill and the 2010 tax deal with McConnell all while rallying Democratic support. The Daily Beast also writes, “Biden helped forge compromises on the 2011 debt limit and laid the groundwork for the repeal of the ban on gays in the military, and ratification of an arms control agreement with Russia.”

The White House has taken full advantage of Biden’s unrivaled negotiating skills because he continuously lands victories for their legislative agenda. Biden’s son, Beau Biden, was on msnbc earlier Thursday, and attributed his role as a father to his success as a politician.

“Look, I’ve got a great dad. If I’m half as good a dad to my two kids as my dad has been to me and my brother and sister, my kids will be lucky,” the Democratic politician said. “I think it’s one of the reasons he’s so successful among Democrats and so successful across the aisle with Republicans over the course of 36-plus years on the national stage.”
