Maybe Newt Gingrich should give up making jokes about the Chevy Volt for lent, given the amount of pushback his stump speech remarks have gotten this week.
Gingrich has mocked the electric car in his stump speeches for being an “Obama car.” Most recently, last weekend while campaigning with Herman Cain in Georgia, Gingrich explained the deeper problem surrounding cars like the Volt and Prius: no space for a gun rack.
Not so fast, Newt. Your challenge was accepted by John McDole.
McDole is an Atlanta resident and Google employee, who, according to The Huffington Post, was inspired after hearing Gingrich’s comments to shoot a YouTube video of his attempt to fit a Remington Model 11 gun rack in his Volt.
The Huffington Post says that McDole is not a hunter, but he is a registered Republican.
McDole wasn’t the only one to take on Gingrich. General Motors head of communications, Sam Bingol wrote about it in a post entitled “We Did Not Engineer the Volt to Be a Political Punching Bag” on the company’s blog:
Newt Gingrich has taken up saying that “You can’t put a gun rack on a Volt.” That’s like saying “You can’t put training wheels on a Harley.” Actually, you can. But the real question is “Why would you?” …
1. It looks weird
2 It doesn’t work very well, and
3. There are better places for gun racks and training wheels — pickup trucks and little Schwinns, respectively.
Seriously, when is the last time you saw a gun rack in ANY sedan?
Thanks to McDole’s youtube attempt, about a mintue ago. But seriously, Newt.
