The Washington Post is reporting a plane carrying Michelle Obama had to make an emergency landing today after it came dangerously close to a 200-ton military cargo jet.

Federal officials said pilots had to abort their planned landing at Andrews Air Force Base due to an air traffic controller’s error.

Reportedly staffers at Andrews feared the C-17 would not clear the runway in time with the first lady's Boeing 737 quickly approaching. They ordered Obama’s plane to do a series of turns in order to keep them at a safe distance. When that didn’t work, they forced them to circle the airport for a bit.

FAA officials confirmed that the first lady was aboard the plane, but had no additional comments.

The FAA has been under intense scrutiny lately after a few controllers were caught literally sleeping on the job.

The first lady was on her way home from doing a TV appearance in New York.
