Former Florida Republican Governor Jeb Bush had a bit of fun on Twitter responding to something his mother told C-SPAN this week. Barbara Bush was asked, “Do you think there’s room for another Bush in the White House?” The question was a reference to the speculation that her son Jeb Bush could pursue the White House in 2016.
The former first lady noted how great America is and continued: “If we can’t find more than two or three families to run for high office, that’s silly. Because there are great governors and great eligible people to run. And I think that –Kennedys, Clintons, Bushes – there’s just more families than that… and I would hope that someone else would run.”
Mrs. Bush did go on to say that there’s no question in her mind that “Jeb is the best qualified person to run for president.”
Okay, so it sounds like Jeb Bush may have his mom’s approval after all. Except, Mrs. Bush went on to add, “But I hope he won’t.”
Taking his mother’s comments in stride, Jeb Bush posted this tweet:
It should be noted, this is not the first time Barbara Bush has made it clear through the media that she doesn’t want Jeb Bush to run in 2016. Ahead of the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library in April, Mrs. Bush told NBC’s Matt Lauer, “We’ve had enough Bushes.”
