U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, under fire for his comments that women’s bodies are able to prevent pregnancies in “a legitimate rape” situation, had the nerve to invoke 9/11 today during radio interview with former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

Explaining his pro-life views, Akin said 9/11 first responders didn’t ask for identification that those they saved because all lives are important.

“They don’t check their ID to see whether they’re important or not, they just take them to safety and run back for more,” Akin said. “They, by their lives, speak as Americans of what we think about the value of human beings and how much respect we hold people with.”

It’s not the first time he’s invoked 9/11 to justify his pro-life stance.  He did it just yesterday during the same “legitimate rape” interview.

Watch at 2:49 into the video:

“One of the things that I love about this country is the fact that Americans do consider life really important,” Akin told The Jaco Report. “You have September 11th, you’ve got these guys running into a building that’s about to collapse, they find somebody in a wheelchair. They never check their ID, or anything like that, or whether they’re important. They grab them and they run them to safety.”
