It's amazing how quickly hawks turn to doves. Pretty much the entire GOP presidential field wants to draw down in Afghanistan. Today, at least, we got a glimpse of why this is.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell explained that the Republican position on the use of US military power depends in some degree...on which party the president belongs to. The technical term for this is Putting Country Second (At Best).
A couple of interesting polls out today, too, both about the economy. One--the one that's getting all the play--is about whether Americans feel better off now than they did when Pres. Obama took office. More do not than do. That shouldn't be surprising. Pres. Bush basically handed Obama the wheel of the car as it went off the cliff. We hit bottom on Obama's watch, but not because of him. So what about getting out of the ravine? Literally half of the country, 49% are scared of what will happen if the Republican Party controls both the White House and the Congress. To quote one of my favorite movies: "Be afraid. Be very afraid."
