The Tuesday Outlook

Obviously, a lot of political eyes will be on NY-26 tonight. The polls close at 9pm and we'll of course be tracking the results as they come in.

Obviously, a lot of political eyes will be on NY-26 tonight. The polls close at 9pm and we'll of course be tracking the results as they come in. But when either side claims the outcome will be a bellwether, remember the possible alternative: It won't. Even if a Hochul win scares some Republicans off the Ryan plan, the best political course might actually be to stick by the Ryan plan. And lots of Republicans are in perfectly safe seats, eager to keep their base happy by backing the Ryan plan.

None of that is meant to diminish the importance of tonight's vote--but that importance has already been established, regardless of who wins. The fact that this race became a close contest at all shows the power of Ryan's Medicare plan as a political weapon. At least for now.

Getting less attention--for now, anyway, from the debt-obsessed MSM--is a political turning point involving jobs. The Dems aren't running away from the auto bailout. They're running on it.

That's today's quick outlook. Today's "Underbuzzed" will be up soon...
