Not for the first time, something about GOP strategy doesn't make sense to me. The House GOP wants to blame Pres. Obama for all the awful things that will happen to the economy and working Americans (not to mention the world) if/when the House GOP defaults on the good faith and credit of the United States.

They admit to Politico: "It's dangerous," but they say it's dangerous for Obama.

But as Jed Lewison points out over at Daily Kos, members of the House GOP are accusing Treasury Sec. Geithner of acting like "Chicken Little" over the dangers of defaulting.

Here's what doesn't make sense. You can't beforehand claim that someone is exaggerating a danger and then after it comes to pass credibly accuse that same person of causing the danger you downplayed. So if the GOP really want to blame Pres. Obama for what happens if/when the Republican Party forces a US default, they ought from a strategic point of view be minimizing those dangers now. And if the US does default on its debt payments, the media ought to remember that the GOP said they were prepared to let it happen because they didn't think it would be too bad.
