Romney ad pokes thrice-married Newt Gingrich

And the award for consistency goes too…

…Mitt Romney?

In his first Iowa focused TV ad titled “Leader,” Romney presents a selective autobiography complete with home videos and debate footage.

The highlight,  “I’ve been married to the same woman for 25 – excuse me, I’ll get in trouble – for 42 years,” palpably jabs thrice married Newt Gingirch, who leads the polls in Iowa.

The Romney campaign wants to create noise – namely the rustling of Newt Gingrich’s divorce papers, but it came out as a relatively dull roar.

For Gingrich and Romney, both topping the current GOP polls, ads taken out by other candidates haven’t shied away from either Gingrich (Ron Paul’s Serial Hypocrisy) or Romney’s (Jon Huntsman’s Mittstant Replay) fluid relationship with policy. But when Romney focuses on Gingrich, we see anything but.

Romney’s second Iowa ad, released today, is economy driven in content – but this time, President Obama is the subject.  But why isn’t actual policy the powder keg between the top two Republican contenders?
