Public workers hit Mitt Romney in new DNC ad

Updated

The Democrats immediately pounced on Mitt Romney’s comments about cutting more public sector jobs and, thankfully, aren’t letting up.

Fewer of Me, a web video out today from the Democratic National Committee features a firefighter, a teacher and a policeman who criticize Romney.

“Mitt Romney says there should be fewer of me,” says Michael, the firefighter. “He wants to cut taxes for people like himself by cutting jobs like mine.”

Romney criticized President Obama on Friday following the president’s remark that the private sector “is doing fine.”

“He says we need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers,” Romney said. “Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.”

Under fire ever since, Romney went on Fox News yesterday to argue that ”the federal government doesn’t pay for teachers, firefighters or policemen. So obviously that’s completely absurd.”

What’s completely absurd is that the federal government has helped state and local governments meet payrolls for decades now.  Romney apparently didn’t pick up on that while he was governor of Massachusetts.
