Pelosi hints, then denies she has Gingrich secrets

Does House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi have dark secrets about GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich?   For the second time in recent weeks, she hinted

Does House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi have dark secrets about GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich?

For the second time in recent weeks, she hinted that she does.  And then indicated she doesn't.

In a CNN interview last night, Pelosi said that Gingrich is not going to be president.  Asked why she's so sure, Pelosi said "there is something I know."

"He’s not going to be president of the United States," Pelosi said.  "That’s not going to happen. Let me just make my prediction and stand by it; it isn’t going to happen."

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said today that what she knows is that Gingrich will not be president.

Previously, Pelosi hinted that she knew a lot about Gingrich because she served on the House Ethics Committee that investigated his conduct.  She later said she was referring to material already in the public record.

Gingrich dismissed Pelosi's claim.

"She lives in a San Francisco environment of strange fantasies and strange understandings of reality," Gingrich said today on NBC’s Today show.  "I have no idea what’s in Nancy Pelosi’s head. If she knows something, spit it out. Tell us what it is. I have no idea what she’s talking about."

Ed will offer his take on Pelosi's claim tonight at 8pET on the @edshow and discuss it with E.J. Dionne, a Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution and Washington Post columnist.

Then Ed will ask @NancyPelosi herself about it when she returns to the @edshow tomorrow (Thursday) at 8pET on @msnbctv, her first appearance on the @edshow since Dec. 15.
