Holocaust ‘never happened’ says GOP congressional candidate

Updated

Iranian president and Holocaust denier Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has a friend in the Republican Party.

Congressional candidate Arthur Jones, an insurance salesman and Vietnam war veteran who organizes family-friend, neo-Nazi events around Adolf Hitler’s birthday, says the “Holocaust never happened.”

“As far as I’m concerned, the Holocaust is nothing more than an international extortion racket by the Jews,” Jones said. “It’s the blackest lie in history.”

Jones is running as a Republican in Illinois’ 3rd congressional district, which covers portions of Chicago’s South Side and a large swath of the south suburbs and has gone Democratic in every election since 1974.

Jones says he’s running because Democratic incumbent Daniel Lipinski is a “war monger” intent on escalating the conflict with Iran (wow, Ahmadinejad must really love this guy!).

A member of the Nationalist Socialist Party in his younger days, Jones took part in the Nazis’ march on Chicago’s Marquette Park in 1978.  While he doesn’t deny nor repudiate his “past affiliations,” he says he votes Republican “90 percent of the time.”

In fairness, state Republicans have shunned Jones as an avowed neo-Nazi and Chairman Patrick Brady issued a stinging statement last December disassociating Jones’ candidacy from the party.

So why are we even giving this nutjob fringe candidate space on our blog?  People like this need are only dangerous when they’re allowed to operate in the dark.

What do you think?
