House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) calls the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Obama’s signature health care law "victory" for the American people, but tells msnbc host Ed Schultz she's "confused by Mitt Romney's reaction.
"I will act to repeal Obamacare," Romney declared, adding that though the court had declared the law constitutional, "what they did not do is say that Obamacare is good law or that it's good policy."
Pelosi sat down with Schultz today in Washington to discuss the decision and Romney's reaction to it (the full interview will be seen tonight on The Ed Show at 8pET on msnbc).
“I was confused because it was as if he (Romney) was for it before he was against it and now he’s both," Pelosi told Ed. "He supports the decision of the court, to overturn the entire bill and yet he said but if they do that, you still cannot be discriminated against on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions. How does that happen? Is he going to pay for it? Maybe he’s volunteering. The fact is you cannot have it both ways.”
Pelosi also describes her emotional phone call this morning with Vicky Kennedy, the widow of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) who spent decades trying to significantly expand health care in the U.S.
And, Ed asks the Democratic leader about the contempt of Congress vote against Attorney General Eric Holder.
