'Ed Show' tonight: Tue., Mar. 13, 2012

Can Mitt Romney win in the Deep South?  Will Rick Santorum embarrass Romney again?

Can Mitt Romney win in the Deep South?  Will Rick Santorum embarrass Romney again?  Can Newt Gingrich extend his victories in the South and stay in the race?

The polls in Alabama and Mississippi close at 8pET and Ed will be all over it tonight with wall-to-wall coverage of the Dixie primaries (we’ll also have the latest results here on The Ed Show blog, updated every two minutes!).

Ed will be joined by msnbc hosts Chris Matthews of Hardball and the Rev. Al Sharpton of Politics Nation

Howard Fineman, NBC News Political Analyst and Editorial Director of the Huffington Post Media Group, msnbc Political Analyst Richard Wolffe and E.J. Dionne, a Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution and Washington Post columnist, will also be on hand for full analysis and reaction.

NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd of The Daily Rundown will look at the exit polls out of Alabama and Mississippi, which show born-again and evangelical Christians dominating the contests with unusually high numbers.

According to a poll we showed last night, GOP voters in Alabama and Mississippi overwhelmingly believe President Obama is a Muslim or say they are not sure of his religion.  U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Connie Schultz, nationally syndicated columnist with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, join Ed for reaction.

And Republicans are hammering the president on gas prices, but will it matter in November?  Ed will ask Stephanie Cutter, Obama Campaign Deputy Campaign Manager.

It's going to be a very special @EdShow at 8pET on @msnbctv.

Join the conversation now or during the show by commenting on Facebook and/or tweeting (with the #edshow hashtag).  However, due to the special coverage, we can't share your thoughts on the show tonight.

The @TweetTron9k will, of course, be back in full force tomorrow (Wednesday) so we can put yer tweets on the teevee!
