Van Hollen: Payroll tax deal is close

Top House Budget Committee Democratic Rep.

Top House Budget Committee Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen said on today’s Daily Rundown that a payroll tax cut deal is very close to being reached.

“The good news is that we are very, very close, but as the president warned, it ain't over till it's over and we still have some details to go,” Van Hollen said.

The Maryland congressman went on to say he thinks House Republicans are going to move forward on the deal to get it done.

“I think the House Republican leadership should have learned a lesson last time when they really took us to the brink and put the tax cut for 160 million Americans at risk,” Van Hollen said. “I think they are determined to move forward and I hope get this done.”

Staff are currently working to write up the payroll deal now, with hopes of finishing by midnight tonight. Final votes on the deal in the House and Senate could take place as early as Friday.
