American history is full of one-time (or two-time or three-time) presidential possibilities who didn’t make it to the White House.

Tragedy robbed some of them of a chance to contend. Scandal or skittishness for the inevitable scrutiny derailed some while others chased the nomination and ran into unexpected obstacles. Plenty secured the nomination and had their hopes crushed either in blowouts or squeakers.

The Daily Rundown’s field of presidential near misses is your chance to pick history’s top White House contender (or pretender) who never made it to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The WINNER of our Presidential Contenders bracket challenge is Bobby Kennedy.
