President Obama is getting some heat for his comments about California Attorney General Kamala Harris, but don’t count Los Angeles mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel among his critics.

While attending a California fundraiser, the president acknowledged several guests, including Harris.

“She is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough, and she is exactly what you’d want in anybody who is administering the law, and making sure that everybody is getting a fair shake,” Obama said of Harris. “She also happens to be by far the best-looking attorney general in the country”

As the crowd reacted with some scattered applause, he added, “It’s true! Come on!”

When msnbc host Chuck Todd asked about the comments during an interview on The Daily Rundown, Los Angeles Controller Wendy Greuel dismissed the criticism.

“The president was of course talking about her accomplishments and what she’s done,” said Greuel. “As a woman, you’re always pleased when someone says you’re good-looking.”

Greuel, who is vying to become the first female mayor in L.A. history, faces off against fellow Democrat L.A. City Councilman Eric Garcetti on May 21.
