The official inauguration playlist: United States of pop

Everyone wants to know what’s really going on behind the President’s million-vote smile. This weekend the President offered his fellow Americans a glimpse inside iPod One with his official Inauguration Playlist.  While a portion of the 17-track Spotify playlist is devoted to campaign standards including Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, And Delivered” and Smokey Robinson’s “Get Ready,” both sides of the aisle were shocked by the influence of the pop music lobby on this Obama administration.

Beyoncé, Fun., and Kelly Clarkson all made the trip to the capital for inaugural performance duties. And Katy Perry’s unforgettable “Vote Obama” ballot-dress may have ensured Democratic Majorities for the rest of the decade, so go ahead 'Bam, rock out to “Fireworks” like no one’s watching.

All signs point to the influence of the first daughters, Sasha and Malia, around the First Turntables. I’m not saying the president doesn’t enjoy Nick Cannon, Usher, or Alicia Keys, as a matter of fact; the First Family might even sit around the Oval Television and enjoy Glee cast recordings on special occasions.  But if the commander-in-chief actually has Far East Movement and (gulp) Mindless Behavior pumping through the subwoofer in his bulletproof limousine, then I’d like to use this blog post to propose a new Cabinet-level position, White House Chief of Tunes.

In any case, the panoramic look at the president’s musical sensibilities really just leaves one question…which tracks will make their way to Michelle’s Valentine’s Day mixtape? I’m thinking some Taylor Sift and Carly Rae Jespen to go along with those new bangs.

My top pick is 'Ordinary People’ by John Legend from President Obama’s Official Inauguration Playlist.
