Sen. Boxer announces 2016 retirement

After months of speculation, Senator Barbara Boxer has announced her decision for 2016.

On a YouTube video released Thursday, the Democratic Senator from California  said she will not run for Senate re-election in 2016.

“I am never going to retire, the work is to important but I will not be running for the Senate in 2016,” Senator Boxer said in the video. “I am going to continue working on the issues that I love, I’ll have more time to help other people through my PAC for Change community, I have to make sure the Senate seat stays progressive, that is so critical, and I want to help our Democratic candidate for president make history.”

After making her announcement that she is ready “to come home to the state that she loves so much,” other politicians took to social media to thank the four-term Senator for her service.
