President Obama's job approval rating has shown a noticeable pattern of decline over the course June, July, and August with this year being no exception as his numbers sunk to 45%, the lowest it has ever been.

The decline of 4 points from May to August “may reflect this seasonal pattern in how Americans view the president as much as anything he is or is not doing at the moment,” the Gallup polling research shows. While it is unclear why this pattern occurs one reason could be the fact that Congress is on recess during the month of August and this is also a time when President Obama takes vacation himself.

“Also Americans may pay less attention to the news and what the president is doing during the summer and may be somewhat more reluctant to say they approve without that information,” Gallup said.

In addition to his declining approval rating a Gallup poll also shows that President Obama’s economic rating is down to 35%, a 7-point dip since June. One upbeat note for President Obama is he is doing better than Congress, which has an approval rating of 14% and are still on summer break unlike the president who is hitting the road on a multi-state bus tour later this week.
