Look out King Kong, this gorilla is stealing your spotlight!

Meet Shabani, the hunky gorilla who has become an internet sensation capturing the heart of hundreds.  Shabani’s photogenic nature has been named “Ikemen” aka “good looking man” by many onlookers who are flocking to the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Nagoya to gawk and fawn over Shabani’s muscles and his striking features. “He often rests his chin on his hands and looks intently at you,” a zoo spokesman Takayuki Ishikawa told AFP on Friday. “He is more buff than most gorillas and he’s at his peak physically.”

The 18-year-old silverback gorilla was born in the Netherlands and raised in Australia before moving in 2007 to Japan, where the women are going ape over him and causing a social media stir. Shabani, who has two wives and two children, is the protector of his pack and is always on the lookout for someone who may hurt his family.

“He will look you in the eye and sometimes if you’re taking photos it will look like he’s posing for you like a model,” Ishikawa said. “But he’s the head of a group of five gorillas so its likely he’s just watching out for them and keeping an eye on you.”
