Mayors place Super Bowl bets

Updated

With only two days away from Super Bowl XLVIII, bets are being placed on who will come away with the Lombardi trophy – and it’s not just sportscasters making the predictions.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock are placing their bets on their hometown favorites. If the Broncos win, the Denver mayor will receive a bike from Rodriguez Bicycles, some salmon, and Dungeness crab. If the Seahwaks win, Seattle’s mayor wins Denver green chili and a ball cap, hoodie, and skis from Icelantic Skis.

But wait, there’s more! “We have decided to add service as part of the effort,” Mayor Hancock said Friday on theTODAY  show. “So we have joined Americorp in both of our cities. When the Denver Broncos win this, Mayor Murray will come to Denver and join me for a day of service.”

Mayor Murray jumped right in to the banter: “When the Seahawks win this, you will come to Seattle and join me.”

As far as the spread?

“Its going to be 24-14 Seahwaks,” Mayor Murray said. Mayor Hancock, unsurprisingly, disagreed. “This won’t even be close. 38-17 Denver Broncos.”
